Aiko Planetarium - Impatient Bill of Nights (JPAL009)

(preview at soundcloud)

Coming a year and three days after young Aiko P.'s debut, Japanese Alice are very proud to release the Planetarium's sophomore effort. Thirteen new songs of empowered detachment, forty-two minutes of recordings rickety enough you might think they were tossed off the side of a bicycle riding to Hel. Not that you'd be wrong.

Board a felucca and sail to the isle of Impatient Nights. On this journey around our beautifully covered skulls, if we are so lucky, crew A.P. give us mostly stripped down acoustic songs sliced between two instrumental numbers. This time the confessional aspects are less abstract and the music more direct. There are still glitch, experimental, and sound collage elements but they've dramatically softened, along with the synths, and the vaguely free form guitar parts and melody forming vocals remain. It's a pleasantly haunting listen.
